Cave of CHAOS

So, a friend of mine does illustrations for their tabletop games, but has never illustrated a dungeon map. He also said he hates caves. So of course, I wrote up a quick cave dungeon. This is that cave dungeon. Enjoy.

Cave of CHAOS

a small cavernous dungeon of epic proportions.

Wilderness surrounding: Not only are the primordial beasts roaming around every corner to be feared, but also the flora and fauna seem to help dispatch the area of any passersby.

Wandering Monsters:

1. d3 goblins. 50% chance they’re arguing among themselves.

2. Cave slug falls from the ceiling. It’s slime melts coins and other ferrous metals.

3. A giant mole pops out from the ground, and pukes up d4 gold pieces

4. A rip in space and time erupts in front of the party. The closest PC gets sucked into it, never to be heard from or seen again. It then immediately closes. (Can only happen once)

Entrance: Hidden behind a thick tapestry of brightly colored, carnivorous flowers and thick, scratchy vines bears the mouth of a cave.

Room 1: This cavern is 13ft high, with a steady stream of water leaking from above, pooling in a murky puddle directly in the center. A golden door lies to the north, and another dark passage ventures toward the south.

- The golden door is locked, with a hexagonal indentation near the handle.

- The sound of fighting can be heard from Room 2.

Room 2: A rowdy group of goblins (d10) are currently betting on a warg fight in the middle of this larger area. Even the guards near the passage are preoccupied with the fight. There is a passage that leads further south.

- If enticed with food, or some other creative measure, the wargs will turn on their abusive goblin masters.

- The goblins are very distracted and may even not notice anyone sneaking to the southern passage.

Room 3: A beautiful underground waterfall is here. Once, a rope bridge connected part of this area to a lone outcropping on the west side of this large cavern. On the outcropping, a large stone golem stands, witnessing the eras pass it by. It has a singular topaz hexagonal eye.

- The eye is the key to get into Room 5. It can be pried easily with thieves tools.

- There is a hidden spy behind the waterfall, watching the PCs. They’ll alert the boss of the intruders.

Room 4: A boss goblin and their hobgoblin bodyguard stand at the ready when the PCs arrive. Before the altar they stand upon is a hidden pit trap. From above the altar, they’ll use arrows to pick at the PCs below.

- The goblin boss has a potion of haste that they will use if things get hairy. In dire straits, they’ll surrender, but not before demanding the hobgoblin dies for them, first.

- There is a trunk of treasure they’ve collected over the weeks. Including 58gp, 298sp, two pewter goblets (3gp), and a jeweled sacrificial dagger (200gp to the right buyer)

Room 5: This is the real treasure room. Once the eye is placed in the socket, the door will grind into the wall, revealing a musty alcove with a large chest. Inside the chest is 450gp, 800sp, a gold necklace (98gp), and a +1 sword of cleaving.

- On a natural 20, the sword may attack again. It may do this every time the weapon rolls a natural 20, so the damage is exploding.
